The Parkway Green Generation Garden was officially opened in May 2011, in partnership with the City of Mississauga and the MIAG Centre for Diverse Women & Families.
The focus of the Generation Garden is the sharing of gardening skills and knowledge between local youth and seniors. The garden contains 40 individual and family plots that can be adopted to grow food, as well as a larger community learning space where students from Ecole Renee Lamoureux and other local youth can learn about gardening. The Generation Garden was established with support from the Evergreen Home Depot Rebuilding Nature Program. The garden also hosts a Habitat Garden established through the Habitat Garden Education Project in 2011.
Parkway Green is also home to Mississauga’s first Community Orchard, a laneway of apple and pear trees planted by students participating in the Human Experiential Leadership Program (HELP), a program of the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board. These students have supported all of our community gardens with their helping hands and exciting new ideas.
